About Behind the Science Safaris

 Behind the Science Safaris was founded to address one of modern wildlife conservation’s biggest challenges: the lack of funding for monitoring and research on under-studied endangered species.

Dr. Camille Fritsch, a Californian who spent 10 years living in South Africa, financed his PhD in Ecology by working part-time as a safari guide. Through this experience, he discovered the untapped potential of bringing American wildlife enthusiasts behind the scenes of frontline conservation projects to directly fund critical research.

To make this vision a reality, Camille partnered with a former University of California classmate who hosts thousands of American travelers each year on international active travel itineraries. Together, they created the industry’s first luxury active safari itinerary, blending the best of Camille’s experiences as one of the world’s leading African wildlife experts with world-class travel logistics.

Launching in 2026, our safaris offer guests the rare opportunity to witness Africa’s wildlife up close while funding three vital conservation efforts on every trip:
